Rob Timmer joins TBK Consult to serve high volume software clients

Rob Timmer (47), previously Sr. Director Net TV at Philips Consumer Lifestyle, joins TBK Consult as partner.

The software industry is in rapid transition.  The proliferation of the Internet, the explosion in “smart phones”, social media and the “App store eco-systems” make room for new markets and new types of software. The consumer portion of the software industry is rapidly overtaking the enterprise software market in volume and value.

“Just 15 years ago the consumer home entertainment market was all about separate eco systems of consumer electronics and packaged music or video content,” explains Rob Timmer, partner at TBK Consult. “Not anymore. The record player is long gone, the cassette deck disappeared, the CD is on its’ aftermath. More recently, we see traditional linear TV being challenged by a variety of interactive on-demand alternatives.  Digitization of content has triggered an on-going convergence of technology and standards.  New devices are more powerful, always ‘connected’, and offer a multi-functional platform for entertainment, information and communication services. Yet, what hasn’t changed so much is the consumer. His needs, motives and way of behaving remain remarkably stable.  Deep consumer insight, understanding motives and behavior, is still the key to developing winning value propositions and growth for any new type of software and services.”

Rob Timmer has been in the consumer electronics industry for 24 years of which he has spent more than 10 years living and operating from Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Rob Timmer will be heading a new initiative from TBK Consult providing management consulting services to software companies in the high volume consumer type markets.  TBK Consult will be offering management-consulting services helping these software companies build and expand international growth.
